Hummus: The crown jewel of Mediterranean cuisine

You cannot think of Mediterranean food without thinking immediately of Hummus!

This dish is so popular because it is simple, nutritious, and deeply rooted in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern culture. Made from basic ingredients such as chickpeas, olive oil, lemon, and tahini, it offers a rich flavor while remaining healthy and plant based.

Beyond its taste, hummus has become widely loved because it represents traditional communal eating and fits modern preferences for wholesome, natural foods. Although there are many variations nowadays with certain twists, but the classic recipe remains the most widely used.

Here is a traditional recipe of Hummus:

1-      Soak chickpeas overnight in plenty of water

2-      Drain, then boil until soft

3-      Gently remove the skin, this step is optional

4-      Blend it with tahini, garlic, salt and lemon until creamy

5-      Slowly add ice-cold water until light and fluffy

6-      Serve it with a drizzle of olive oil

7-      Sprinkle with paprika or cumin

8-      Enjoy as a dip with bread or veggies

Et voilà! Hummus is ready, a healthy plant-based protein dish full with dietary fiber and vitamins and minerals such as iron, magnesium, potassium, and B vitamins, making it a balanced and nourishing food when eaten in moderation.

Bon appétit from the Mediterranean Edit!
